Shenzhen New Frontier United Family Hospital receives 17000 Hong Kong patients annually, accounting for 30% of the total number of patients
Shenzhen New Frontier United Family Hospital, which participated in the Hong Kong Elderly Health Voucher Greater Bay Area pilot program, has been operating for over 3 years. The annual number of medical consultations for Hong Kong patients reaches 17000, accounting for about 30% of the total number of patients. Last month, the outpatient volume of Hong Kong people increased threefold compared to the same period last year, and among oncology patients, local patients accounted for 80%.
The hospital said that since August last year, the hospital has participated in the relevant Greater Bay Area pilot program, and nearly 5000 elderly people aged 65 or above in Hong Kong have visited the hospital, mainly for physical examination, eye examination, chronic disease follow-up of hypertension or diabetes, surgical examination, etc. Some elderly people with prostate, cataract, knee joint and other diseases have been admitted to the hospital for surgery if necessary.
The hospital is a Hong Kong funded private hospital located in Futian District, Shenzhen. Jia Lin, the deputy director of the oncology department, stated at a media lunch that the cost of similar targeted drugs in the hospital is cheaper than in Hong Kong, averaging five times lower. The hospital is currently using three innovative drugs from mainland China, some of which are priced at just over 40% of imported drugs of the same type. As for the joint consultation of doctors from Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou, it can significantly shorten the diagnosis and treatment cycle, thus having advantages in cross-border cancer diagnosis and medical services.
The hospital said it needs to hire high-quality doctors in mainland China and will focus on recruiting in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. The goal is to increase the proportion of Hong Kong patients to 50% in the next 3 to 5 years, but it is emphasized that it is not to compete with private hospitals in Hong Kong for business, but to supplement public hospitals.
