Surgical innovation of bladder cancer: retrograde resection, more accurate and safe tumor treatment
Dr. Guan Zhichen, an expert in urology in our hospital, successfully performed a retrograde resection of tumor for a patient with bladder cancer. This case demonstrates innovative urological surgical methods and provides patients with a safer option.

Retrograde resection: more precise and safer
The patient had visible hematuria one month before the visit, and during the examination, abnormal cauliflower like protrusions were found in the bladder. Subsequently, the patient went to our urology department where Dr. Guan Zhichen performed tumor resection surgery.

Dr. Guan Zhichen has over 40 years of clinical experience and is a pioneer in urology and various minimally invasive surgeries in Shenzhen. He has extensive experience in the fields of prostate obstructive diseases, urinary system tumors, bladder dysfunction, and more.

During the process of removing the tumor, Dr. Guan Zhichen employed an innovative retrograde resection technique——

The advantages of retrograde resection are:
On the one hand, doctors can more accurately determine the depth of resection during the resection process, ensuring that the tumor is completely removed while reducing damage to normal tissues, which is beneficial for patients' postoperative recovery;

On the other hand, retrograde resection can reduce contact with the tumor, such as compression and flipping, and lower the risk of tumor cells spreading through the blood or lymphatic system.

What is bladder cancer
Bladder cancer, originating from the bladder mucosa, is the most common cancer diagnosis of the urinary system. The most common pathological type is urothelial cell carcinoma, which accounts for more than 90% of bladder cancer.

In recent decades, the incidence rate and mortality of bladder cancer in China have been on the rise. Its incidence rate increases with age, and the high incidence age is 50-70 years old. The incidence rate of bladder cancer in men is 3-4 times higher than that in women.

Be alert for bladder cancer in case of these two diagnostic signs
01 Hematuria
Hematuria is the most common diagnosis of bladder cancer, and the initial clinical manifestation of more than 90% of bladder cancer patients is hematuria.

It usually presents as painless, intermittent, and gross hematuria throughout the entire process, sometimes also as microscopic hematuria.

However, the amount of bleeding and the duration of hematuria are not necessarily proportional to the malignancy, size, range, and number of tumors, and cannot be subjectively inferred. If hematuria occurs, seek medical attention promptly.

02 Local stimulation
About 10% of bladder cancer patients will first appear bladder irritation diagnosis, manifested as frequent urination, urgency of urination, pain in urination and difficulty in urination, while patients have no obvious gross hematuria.

This is mostly due to the large or numerous tumors in the bladder, or the diffuse infiltration of bladder tumors into the bladder wall, resulting in a decrease in bladder capacity or concurrent infection.
